Basil

Basil is a fantastic herb that every kitchen can grow. Basil grows fantastically on windowsills, in pots, planter beds and even in larger vegetable gardens.

There are several types of basil, but two of the most widely grown and consumed are the common basil (Genovese) and Thai basil. The traditional basil Genovese is your common type of basil which is often used in pastas and Italian cooking. Thai basil possesses more of an aniseed, licorice and spicy flavour, more commonly used in Asian cooking.

Growing basil from seed is a fantastic and cost-effective way to grow basil. Pots and containers are a fantastic way to grow basil inside, but make sure your basil has enough sunlight to extend your basil through the winter periods.

We find that a healthy dose of eco-friendly potting mix is a great source of nutrients for our basil to be potted in. Once potted in a healthy potting mix the odd dose of seaweed based fertiliser is a great booster to your basil plant.
